The American Trucking Associations program addresses the fact that most car drivers were never taught how to drive safely around tractor-trailers and causes 71 percent of all truck-related car causalities. Kentucky documented in 1999 that 1,406 vehicles involved in lethal crashes. Eighteen wheelers were involved in 94 of them. If these numbers follow national statistics, car’s have created 71 percent of the accidents - and at least 35 percent of them supposedly occurred in the blind spots of the eighteen wheeler. These numbers indicate the urgent need to educate car drivers about how to drive safely around trucks. Our county has many tractor trailer’s pass through most of them move through the interstate, but there’s been times they drive on the small highways which is a hazard and if you plan to drive on the highways watch for semi’s.
